Camping at Burney Falls
Burney Falls provides one of the finest camping experiences in
Northern California and it does it on a year round basis. Amenities
include flushing toilets, hot showers, and a general store with
food service, coffee, firewood and more. This is an excellent campground
for families with junior ranger programs that everyone will enjoy.
During our last stay we attended an entertaining program on rats
with wings (bats)
at the campfire ampitheater.
Those with small children should know that sites 42, 43, and 44
are relatively near the rim of the gorge and may cause a bit of
unease as the kids roam around (its a long fall). The campground
is only a short walk from the falls and a slightly longer hike from
Lake Britton.
The campground is divided into Rim Camp and Pioneer Camp with a
total of 128 sites. Rim Camp features six handicapped accessible
sites and the only restrooms and showers with handicapped access.
While dogs are allowed at all the sites Pioneer Camp is probably
better suited since they are allowed on Pioneer Hiking Trail only
(with a leash). The sites are excellent, all quite level and typically
with plenty of room. Eight people and three vehicles (that includes
trailers) are allowed at each family site. Each has a fire ring,
picnic table, food storage, and many have one of those outdoor woodstove
type things. As of the summer of 2004 there were no bearproof containers,
although that will probably change in the future.
